A YOUNG mother, who was told only four months ago that she had terminal cancer, has died.

Tributes have been pouring in for Vikki Purslow of Coedpoeth, who died at Nightingale House Hospice on Monday.

Vikki, the wife of Matthew and mother to Amelie, five, and 10-month-old Cleo, was diagnosed with terminal cancer in May.

Since then, the 27-year-old raised a remarkable £33,000 for charity.

She spoke candidly to the Leader when she learned she had only months to live.

She said she was not scared of dying but found the most difficult thing to grasp the fact she would no longer be there for her family and friends.

On Vikki’s Facebook page, dozens of heartfelt tributes have been paid to “an amazing girl” who was “such an inspiration to so many”.

Denzil Pemberton, manager of Colour Supplies in Wrexham, where Matthew together with Vikki’s mother, Jane, work, described Vikki as a “bubbly person with a great personality”.

“It’s an awful feeling, even though we knew it was going to happen,” said Denzil.

“Vikki will be very sadly missed. She was so brave and her fundraising efforts were fantastic.”

After her cancer diagnosis, Vikki brought forward her wedding ceremony to Matthew.

Just a week later she learned the cancer was terminal but always vowed to stay positive and appreciate her time left.

The mum, who was brought up in Whitchurch and worked there as a music teacher, took time to make videos, books and journals for her children to remember her by.

She also organised two fundraising events – a walk up Snowdon, which raised £30,000 – and a fun day in Coedpoeth in August, which also brought in about £3,000.

She split all the money between Nightingale House, Macmillan Cancer Support and The Willow Foundation.

It is hoped that the fun day in Coedpoeth will become an annual event dedicated to Vikki.

- Vikki’s old schoolfriend, Richard Lunt, is also organising a fancy dress party in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support in her memory. The event will take place at The Club House on Oak Road, Wrexham Industrial Estate at 7.30pm on Friday, September 24.

Tickets cost £20. For more information contact Richard on 07904 392926 or email lunt-richard@sky.com
