CALLS have been made to end HGV ‘sat nav madness’ in residential areas.

Lorry drivers looking for Aber Park Industrial Estate in Flint are causing chaos in the surrounding area when they miss the turning onto Aber Road.

Now, after years of campaigning, signs warning drivers not to trust their navigation devices will be put up.

Flint councillor Alex Aldridge said once lorry drivers miss the turning the devices take on a life of their own trying to figure out an alternative route.

He said: “It has been an ongoing problem for years. It is more to do with our European counterparts whose sat navs don’t get it to the definitive foot.

“Once they miss the crucial turn on Aber Road then the devices take on a life of
their own. It is bonkers. This will help prevent them doing that.

“I have seen heavy goods vehicles reversing out of a small a cul-de-sac off Old London Road.

“I have seen them do 360 degree turns near the library.

“Flintshire Council is going to help with signs. We are getting the signage, it has been ongoing for three years. It is going to give the drivers some warning.

“There have been complaints for residents.”

Signs will be placed on junctions on Northop Road, Aber Road and the A55 in a bid to end the problems.

And Cllr Aldridge is now asking for weight restrictions to be placed on Halkyn Street, Halkyn Road and Old London Road to keep drivers on the right routes and away from residential areas.

He said: “We do not want HGVs down there. People have been patient. We have a school and a community hospital down there.”
