CHARITY recycling banks are to be moved following complaints from residents.

People living in Hawarden have written to Flintshire Council demanding the “unsightly” recycling banks in the village’s Tinkersdale car park be removed.

Council chiefs have now agreed to relocate them to Saltney.

A spokesman for Flintshire Council said: “Following a complaint regarding the recycling bins sited in the car park they will be removed and moved to the new Morrison’s supermarket in Saltney.

“Residents who used the site at the Tinkersdale car park are advised to either visit the civic amenity site in Queensferry or place their recyclables out for collection by our kerbside blue box/blue bag collection service.”

One pensioner, who asked to remain anonymous, says the brightly coloured banks are an eyesore to neighbours.

The banks collect unwanted items for the Salvation Army and British Heart Foundation, among others.

The 68-year-old, who has lived in her nearby home for almost 30 years, lodged a request with Flintshire Council to move them elsewhere.

She told the Leader: “These unsightly boxes are a blot on our landscape. We are supposed to be protecting this beautiful rural area, not littering it with bright red boxes.

“It is absolutely ruining our countryside. There is a perfectly good recycling centre in Queensferry, or you can go to your local supermarket to donate unwanted items.

“Twice a week people knock on my door with different bags for us to dump our clothes and we have got a roadside recycling collection so we do not need these boxes.

“Everybody I know agrees with me.”
