BLUES boss Neil Young is patiently waiting to see his side get off the mark.

Young hopes Chester’s frustrating early season stop-start campaign can be rewarded with a league victory on Saturday at Wakefield (3pm kick-off).

Chester have only played one league match so far compared to tomorrow’s scheduled opponents Wakefield, who have played three fixtures and are eighth in the Division One North league table.

Eleven days have elapsed since the Blues’ 1-1 draw at Warrington Town and Chester were forced to postpone their planned opening home fixture on Monday due to Prescot Cables’ FA Cup replay against Atherton Colleries on Tuesday.

Young said: “Our biggest problem has not being able to play games and get on a roll, but we now need to kick-on and get the first win on the board.

“I feel we can go on a run once we get our first victory, just like Chorley have achieved at the top of the league table.

“Wakefield will give us a tough game on Saturday, but we have to Nify their threat and try and impose ourselves.

“I’ve been to Wakefield twice and I’ve found it’s always a difficult place to go and get a result. Wakefield are a big and strong side who will like to test us by throwing balls into our box from free kicks, throw ins, and corner kicks.

“One of their best players is a 6ft 6in tall striker Tom Denton, and I’m fully expecting Wakefield to throw high balls into the box to try and pick him out.

“We’ll have to stay on our toes and be ready for everything they throw at us as well as capitalise on our chances when they come along.

“I’ve come away with two draws from my two visits there, but it would be great to think I can make it third time lucky with a win.”

Young admitted he had been disappointed after failing to agree terms with Southport striker Chris Simm.

He added: “Chris Simm won’t now be coming to Chester because we couldn’t agree a way forward.

“I was hoping we could agree terms after a deal had been sorted out with Southport manager, Liam Watson.

“Chris has spent time at Morecambe on trial but was not offered a deal by them and I was hoping that he would decide to come to Chester.

“I was trying to sign Chris after Josh Macauley’s departure to Bala Town.

“I can’t see any more ins or outs in the foreseeable future, but I would still like to bring in another striker.

“We have brought in Nick Rogan from Fleetwood Town because I felt he was the sort of player we have needed, but he hasn’t had chance to play for us yet.

“Nick is with us on a one month loan deal which ends on September 26, but I’m hoping I can try and review that situation and extend the loan.”
