AN award-winning park has been offering visitors the opportunity to find out what a farmer’s life is like.

Staff and volunteers at Ty Mawr Country Park staged an Old MacDonald Day – named after the farmer in the famous nursery rhyme – and visitors were able to follow a farm trail, enjoy tractor rides and make badges.

Visitors to Ty Mawr in Cae Gwilym Lane, Cefn Mawr, were able to feed pigs, rabbits, chickens, goats and donkeys or stroll alongside the River Dee with views of the viaduct and Pontcysyllte Aqueduct.

High standards at Ty Mawr helped Wrexham Council to earn its first Green Flag Award in 2005, an accolade that has since been repeated in 2010 across the county borough. The Green Flag Award Scheme is the national standard for parks and green spaces.

Cllr David Bithell, Wrexham Council lead member for the environment and transport, said: “Our parks offer an excellent environment for people to enjoy.”

- WALES Young Farmers Club will be holding a special weekend event at Glyndwr University in Wrexham from September 10-12 to celebrate the start of the YFC year.
