A HERO teenager has saved his family from an arson attack.

Ryan Valentine, 18, evacuated his parents, Jan and Kelly, and the family dog, Dusty, from their home in Swan Street, Rhos, after a stream of flame swept down the street edging dangerously close to the gas supply at their house.

The drama began shortly after 5am yesterday when yobs torched two cars, including Ryan’s van.

Ryan, a student at Yale College, went out to investigate and was horrified to find that his Vauxhall Astra van, an 18th birthday present, had been targeted by arsonists.

To make matters worse flaming fuel was leaking from the vehicle andspreading down the road towards the Valentine’s gas supply.

Ryan said: “If the fire had set the gas supply alight the whole house could have gone up. Somebody could easily have been killed."

The brave teenager ran back inside, jumping across the flames, and led his parents and Dusty the spaniel to safety.

He added: “I didn’t have time to think about it really. There was one thing happening after another. I just wanted to make sure that everyone was safe.”

After safely evacuating the property the family looked on helplessly as his van, which contained the tools Ryan needs for his bricklaying college course, turned into a raging fireball and was wrecked.

Mum Jan said: “Ryan is trying to make something of his life by studying and learning a trade. The equipment that he needs to do his course was stored in that vehicle. He had only had the van for three months.”

A spokeswoman for North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said two vehicles had been deliberatley torched in Swan Street and School Street within a short time of each other.
