DEAN SAUNDERS believes Wrexham could have beaten Bath City by a bigger margin.

Wrexham secured a 2-0 victory at Twerton Park thanks to goals either side of the break from Andy Morrell and Christian Smith.

It ended a run of four games without a win and Saunders, who had been under-fire following Wrexham’s poor start to the season, thought his side were well worth the three points.

“It was a solid performance and we should have won by more goals really,” said Saunders.

“We had a few chances to make it 3-0 and didn’t score. Kevin Gall had one cleared off the line first half and we had another one cleared off the line just before it.

“We had chances to make it more of a scoreline than it was but I am pleased we got three points in the bag.

“It is not an easy place to come and play. The grass was dry and quite long, and the ball was a bit sticky but I thought we played some lovely football.

“I thought Andy Morrell was oustanding and there were some really good performances out there. Most of all they worked their socks off, they were out on their feet some of them.

“I tried to out a few fresh legs in there to try and give us a bit of advantage over them.

“But Andy Morrell scored from a long throw-in, which was something we knew Bath struggled with last week. That sort of influenced my decision to play Curtis Obeng although young Declan Walker has not done anything wrong.

“And the second goal was a good goal, a Christian Smith header from a free-kick we have worked on.

“I won’t get carried away by the result, just as I wasn’t when things went against us. I am just going to carry on doing my job.”

Saunders was marking his 100th competitive game in charge of Wrexham and he joked: “There are not many people who survive that long is there?”
