THOUSANDS descended on this year’s Denbigh and Flint Show as the rain clouds stayed away.

Crowds flocked to the prestigious agricultural show, held on The Green in Denbigh yesterday to take in the sights and sounds of Flintshire and Denbighshire’s rural communities.

Showgoers were treated to a host of entertainment ranging from a motorbike display by the AirRaid FMX team, showjumping, vintage tractors as well as the traditional livestock competitions.

Treuddyn farmer Terrig Morgan, president of this year’s show, said it was a great opportunity for farmers and the public to mix.

He said: “We have had a wonderful day. The weather has kept with us and the crowds have come in. It has been so busy they have had to open the overflow car park. It is cram-packed with people.

“We have had some excellent entries, especially in the cattle section, it is the best we have seen for a while. It is an excellent way to show the wears of farmers to the general public. The show is a real taste of country life.

“I have seen a lot of people having a good time, especially children.”

There was plenty to see on the showground with a food hall packed with local traders and cooking demonstrations, stalls, stands and a funfair.

Tara Bloor, of Northop, a pupil at Mold Alun School, said: “I came to see the showjumping. There were lots of things going on and it was really good. I’ve never been before, but I would come again. The weather has stayed nice.”

Les Ward, 59, of Flint, went to the show with his wife Helen and said he would like to see it expanded to a two-day event.

He said: “The weather has been good. Most things we have looked around have been well attended. There are a lot more events compared to other years. It seems to be getting better.”

Brian Horwich, 50, of Llanasa, brought a stand promoting his Pant Glas Bach Preserves business and said he would definitely come back next year.

He said: “This is my first time and we have been very busy. I have really enjoyed it. It has been packed all day.”
