A MAN has been jailed for a year for an attack which left his victim unconscious.

Martin David Roberts, 25, of Ruabon Road, Wrexham, admitted assaulting Dale Wilkinson in the early hours of New Year's Day.

The Recorder Grenville Perry, sitting at Mold Crown Court yesterday, said that after a night of heavy drinking and taking drugs, Roberts butted his victim on the nose and hit him in the face. The victim said he also recalled being kicked while on the floor.

The judge told Roberts that if there was any provocation, it was very limited.

Roberts had shown little remorse and did not appreciate the impact of his behaviour, the court was told.

Roberts received a concurrent sentence for assaulting a teenager during a later incident on the same night.

Sandra Subacchi, prosecuting said Roberts had seen Mr Wilkinson earlier in the evening and as he walked by, said: “Dale, you are a dead man.”

Mr Wilkinson ignored the comment but both later ended up in the house of a mutual friend.

Roberts told Mr Wilkinson he wanted to talk to him outside, he went and was standing there rolling a cigarette when he was head-butted in the face.

As a result of the attack three teeth were knocked out, he had a split lip, a cut to the eye and bruised and swollen eyes.

Myles Wilson, defending, said Roberts's recollection was limited because of alcohol but he accepted responsibility for what he had done and had pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity.
