A BUILDING firm has landed a multi-million-pound school contract.
Watkin Jones will build a new £5 million, 210-place primary school in Rhosymedre and demolition work on the existing school will begin this month.
The new school will have a U-shaped layout and council bosses say it will conform to the most stringent environmental standards.
During construction work pupils will be taught in the infants’ building and in mobile classrooms.
Cllr Aled Roberts, leader of Wrexham Council said: “I know the whole community is looking forward to having a first-class school that is fit for the 21st century. We are committed to ensuring our young people are taught in an environment that brings out their full potential.
“I look forward to following the new building’s progress and to its opening next year.”
Work is currently going ahead in Wrexham to improve three secondary schools and plans are in the pipeline for a new Welsh-medium primary school in Gwersyllt and a primary school in Llay.
