A MAN who had indecent child images on his computer has been spared jail.

A court was told Jonathon Selley’s mother and father had initially been arrested and questioned about the 58 indecent photographs and videos of five to 12-year-old children after he attempted to implicate them.

Sandra Subacchi, prosecuting, told Mold Crown Court: “On June 20, 2008, the defendant was arrested on an unconnected matter and as a result a search was carried out at his property and a computer seized and analysed.”

Selley, 30, of Brynmally Park, Pentre Broughton, admitted 16 counts of making
indecent photographs of children between January and June 2008, ranging in seriousness from level one to videos at level four.

Ms Subacchi said that during his second police interview, when it was evident that indecent videos were on the computer, Selley denied any knowledge about how they got there.

She said: “He said it was not only himself using the computer but his father and mother. As a result both of them were arrested and interviewed.”

Selley had a previous conviction for creating indecent images of children and had received a three-year community order in 2005.

Des Warren, defending, said Selley was from a good family who were standing by him.

His parents and his fiancée were in court.

Judge Philip Hughes said he had intended to jail Selley, but was persuaded to give him one last chance.

He was impressed by his family and fiancee’s support and would suspend a 12-month jail sentence for 18 months.

Selley was made the subject of a sexual offences order, told to register on the sex offenders’ register and told he must not work with children for the rest of his life.
