A MOTHER has been ordered to make her son behave – or face eviction from her Wrexham council house.

The mother of the boy who made life a misery for her neighbours by making a hoax bomb call, stealing and using racially threatening behaviour can now be evicted at any time by the council

For the first time in four years, and only the second time in its history, Wrexham Council has taken the step of removing the security of a tenancy.

The effect is that the Johnstown woman can be evicted without the local authority having to go through the court system.

The woman, who cannot be named to protect the identity of her son who is under 18, must now ensure his behaviour improves or face eviction.

A council spokesman said: “We could have gone for possession of the property but we didn’t because that would have penalised her for her son’s behaviour.

“It is only the second time we have ever done this and it means if we wanted an eviction we don’t have to go through the full court tenant process.

“It will be up to us to decide.”

A hearing at Wrexham County Court was told neighbours’ lives had been made a misery by the son’s behaviour which included causing a bomb hoax, theft, disorderly behaviour, using threatening and abusive words, racially threatening words, behaviour and harassment.

Cllr Mark Pritchard, lead member for housing and planning, said: “Residents have a right to live in peace and quiet in their own homes and I am very pleased the courts are supporting us in our efforts to put a stop to anti-social behaviour in our communities.

“We will use every means available to us to ensure our tenants abide by the terms of their tenancy agreements.”

It is the second time in recent months that Wrexham Council has secured a court order. The first was for the successful eviction of a man whose anti-social
behaviour made his neighbours’ lives a misery.
