A MINES rescue station dating back to 1913 has been recommended for listed status.
There will now be a four-week consultation period to determine whether the rescue station on Maesgwyn Road will be officially listed.
Chairman of the North Wales Miners Association Trust, Phil Wynn welcomed the news.
The building has been recommended for listed status by Cadw, the body which oversees Welsh heritage.
Mr Wynn, who is also a councillor for the Brynyffynnon area of Wrexham, said: “This is tremendous news and it is hoped that the current owner will respect Cadw’s decision and ensure a commercial use is found for the building.
“While it is currently threatened with demolition it has always been our hope that Cadw would consider granting the station listed status.
The station is currently owned by prominent local businessman Neville Dickens who will have the opportunity to comment along with the council’s planning department and The Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales.
