HUNDREDS of people have voiced their opposition to plans for a village gipsy site.

Anxious residents have set up the Ewloe Green Action Group to oppose the proposed five-caravan site on land off Magazine Lane, Ewloe Green.

A second public meeting has now been called with group members urging the public to turn up and have their say.

The green-belt land is popular with walkers and dog owners and it is feared any development will increase traffic leading to the site.

A spokeswoman for the group said the area was vital to residents.

She said: “We have had a lot of opposition from people further than Ewloe Green – a lot of people from the surrounding areas, including Hawarden, Buckley, Northop Hall.

“People are so concerned, they need a voice. We are holding another meeting for concerned residents. We want to involve as many people to oppose to it on planning grounds.

“The amount of people opposing this is running into the hundreds.

“People have had applications for conservatories turned down so this would not be fair. We don’t think the lane could cope with the traffic.”

When making his proposal, applicant Martin Rooney said he had not consulted the local community about the proposal.

He also said no plans had been made to store waste, nor had arrangements been made for the recycling of waste.

The application is set to be discussed by Flintshire Council’s planning committee in September.

The meeting is being held at Ewloe Social Club, Mold Road, Connah’s Quay on Thursday, at 7pm.
