A WOMAN who died when she was hit by a train has yet to be identified.

British Transport Police are yet to confirm the identify of the 44-year-old Chester woman who was hit by the 5.45am, Chester to Wrexham service at Saltney Junction, Curzon Park Road North, Chester, at about 5.30am on Tuesday.

An inquest into her death is expected to be opened and adjourned by the Coroner for Cheshire later this week.

The woman was struck by a train following reports from a train driver who had seen a person close to the tracks.

Emergency services rushed to the scene and found the woman unconscious after suffering multiple injuries as a result of the incident.

She was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene at 6.12am.

Arriva Trains Wales services were cancelled for two hours from about 6am and rush hour commuters faced long delays, with the line re-opening at 8.30am but further disruption expected for several hours.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: “The incident is currently being treated as non-suspicious and an investigation to determine the full circumstances is ongoing. A file will be prepared for the coroner.”
