A FAMILY-run haulage firm has been badly affected by a spate of fuel thefts.

Thieves have siphoned off hundreds of pounds worth of diesel from vehicles belonging to LH Haulage, based in Pentre Halkyn.

Since June the company has been targeted three times while lorries were parked overnight at the Aberdo Quarry.

The latest theft was on Monday night when thieves stole fuel valued at more than £200.

Lisa Henri, who runs the business with her husband Louis, said: “We are a small business and these thefts are hitting us hard.

“I might as well just be pouring my profit down the grid. We lose nearly 40 per cent of profit in fuel costs anyway because of the price, so to lose it in this way makes me so angry.”

Lisa, 45, and Louis, 41, set up the business, which supplies tippers and concrete mixers to quarries, in 2003 and have a fleet of four lorries.

Lisa added: “We have managed to keep ourselves going throughout the recession when everyone went under. We have kept local workers in jobs, but if this carries on there’s no point in even trading.”

The couple are now determined to catch the culprits.

Lisa said: “This is having a massive knock-on effect and it’s making me all the more determined to catch them.

“Everyone is looking out for them, including the other laulage businesses, and I want them to know that they will be caught and dealt with accordingly.”

CCTV images from the quarry show two figures who Lisa believes were involved.

She added: “It must be someone who knows the area because they know how to get across the quarries in the dark. No-one else would risk that because there’s lead mines everywhere.”

Farms and other quarries in the area have also been targeted.

A spokesman for North Wales Police said: “I can confirm we are investigating the thefts. To date no arrests have been made, however CCTV footage is being studied as part of the investigation.

“Police are appealing to anyone who has information about the incidents or who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously in the area to call PC Susan Carrington at Holywell Police Station on the non-emergency 101 number.”
