PREPARATIONS are well under way for a golf day to raise vital funds for a sick toddler.

Harry Vaughan, aged three, from Flint, was born with congenital muscular dystrophy merosin negative, a rare muscle wasting disease which leaves him unable to stand or crawl on his own.

Last week the Leader reported on a fundraising campaign by parents Debbie, 40, and Kevin, 43, for the expensive medical equipment their son needs.

The golf day has been organised by Broughton engineering firm J&P Group Ltd which hopes to treat Harry to a custom-made electric wheelchair.

Debbie says she has been touched by the support that local businesses have pledged to the event.

She said: “Despite his problems, Harry is a happy, outgoing little boy who lights up any room with his personality.

“We’d like to say a massive thank you to all the local businesses that are helping us to raise money to buy the specialist equipment that will improve the quality of Harry’s life.”

The Harry Vaughan Charity Golf Day is being held at Old Padeswood Golf Club on Friday, August 20, followed by an evening of entertainment in the clubhouse.

Teams will be competing for a range of prizes including a £15,000 Vauxhall Astra.
