GUNMEN targeted parked cars in a spate of drive-by shootings.

In two separate attacks at least four vehicles were hit by bullets or pellets fired from a car as it sped along Chester Road, Gresford.

The first shooting, just after midnight on Saturday, left one car parked opposite the Texaco filling station with a smashed side window, another with its windscreen smashed and its bodywork pocked with pellet marks, while a third was also damaged.

The shooters struck again late on Sunday evening, leaving a car on the opposite side of the road with its rear screen shattered.

The female owner of one of the cars hit in the first attack, who asked not to be named, said: “My car was hit around midnight on Saturday.

“I went outside and found the side window had been smashed.

“I don’t know much about guns, so I’m not sure whether it was an airgun pellet or a bullet from a gun that did the damage.

“Both of these shootings seem to have been just random and done by someone driving past in a car, or maybe more than one car.”

She added: “I don’t think it was anyone targeting us in particular - just someone having what they thought was a good laugh.

“But this was a very dangerous and stupid thing to do.

“Spraying bullets or whatever around like that could have left a person or an animal seriously injured.

“Whoever did this has got to have something wrong with them.

“I have reported the matter to the police and will have to get the damage to my car repaired through the insurance.”

A nearby resident, who also asked to remain anonymous, said: “The windscreen in my son’s car was smashed and there was another mark on the bodywork where it had been hit by pellet or a bullet which had not gone through the metal.

“The next evening, between about 9.45 and 10.30pm, there was more shooting and the back window of my car was completely shattered.

“A neighbour came to the door to tell me about it and I wasn’t happy, to say the least.

“We have no idea who might have done this or why but it was a very stupid thing to do as it could have been a person or a animal hit by them.

“We have reported both incidents to the police but I know people around here are now worried about leaving their cars at the roadside.”

A spokeswoman for North Wales Police confirmed officers were investigating a number of incidents of criminal damage in the area.
