TWIN kittens tied up in a binbag and left to starve have been rescued and are awaiting a new home.

A Rhostyllen animal lover found the pair while walking in Erddig after his dog took an interest in the bag.

On opening it he found the two starving tabby and white kittens.

The man, who asked not to be named, said: “I couldn’t just leave them there. I took them home, gave them a bit of dog food and bathed them.

“It was the decent thing to do.”

The kittens were taken to Vets4Pets on Island Green.

Peter Van Zuuren, a vet at the practice, said: “They must have been unwanted, but I can’t see why. They had some fleas but otherwise they seemed completely healthy and friendly.”

Vets4Pets called Cat Protection and the RSPCA before Maureen McKevitt, a cat breeder of Erddig, volunteered to take in the kittens.

Mrs McKevitt, who has nine cats and 13 kittens, said: “They’re both absolutely gorgeous. I don’t know how anyone could be so cruel as to leave them to starve.

“They’re a bit frightened at the moment, but are doing fine. I hope someone can offer them a caring home.”

Vets4Pets are offering a free vaccination course for each kitten to the new owners.

Peter Van Zuuren said: “These kittens haven’’t had the best start in life. A free vaccination course is the least we can do to make sure they get the best out of life from now on.”

Mrs McKevitt is also offering free insurance for four weeks, as well as essentials such as cat food and litter trays. Anyone interested should call 01978 355214.
