Former Wales and Lions winger Dafydd James is considering a move into rugby league with the Crusaders but would prefer to stay in union.

James, who won 48 caps for Wales and three for the Lions on the 2001 tour to Australia, was released by Cardiff at the end of last season.

The 34-year-old was loaned to Sale Sharks in January but struggled to make an impact at Edgeley Park.

"I'm as fit as ever, highly motivated and looking to continue playing top flight professional rugby for another one or two seasons," said James.

"I'm looking at all possibilities, including a switch to league with the Crusaders, although my main ambition at the moment would be to stay in union.

"It was a frustrating and disappointing time last season - at Cardiff my opportunities were limited and when I moved to Sale we were in a relegation battle.

"But I've grown from last season and I am probably a better professional for it."

Meanwhile Crusaders’ Jordan James insists his side must build on Saturday’s
victory over Catalans Dragons and secure a top eight finish.

Brian Noble’s side travelled to the South of France looking for their first win in three and pulled of sensational fight-back to beat the Carnegie Challenge Cup semi-
finalists 22-26.

Prop James, who will be in the Crusaders’ squad for Sunday’s home game
against Castleford at The Gnoll, said: “It was great to get back to winning ways.

“Catalans is not the easiest place to go and get a result and we did make life difficult for ourselves on occasions.

“We’ve got to make sure we build on this result and get another win against Castleford Tigers down in South Wales next weekend.

“It wasn’t a vintage display by any means. We could have showed a bit more composure at times and we did make a few unforced errors. But we managed to grind out a victory, something that we haven’t been able to do a lot this season.”

“But we take a lot of confidence from it. Going all the way to France and picking up the two points is a big plus for us. We put plenty of effort in against Huddersfield and Warrington but came up short so it was good to see our endeavour starting to
pay off.

“It’s not easy playing away, especially when you’re away for a few days, and this win will give us some confidence going into the back end of the season.”

“Catalans have one of the bigger packs in Super League and they drive down the middle quite a lot. It was the same with Warrington and Huddersfield, they’ve both got massive packs so those tests stood us in good stead for Sunday,”
