A LECTURER claims he was unfairly dismissed from his post at Wrexham’s Glyndwr University.
Hamish Murphy was sacked as principal lecturer in youth and community studies at the university last year, an employment tribunal was told.
The tribunal at Shrewsbury heard evidence from fellow university employee Gillian Bridgett.
She was appointed to act as an investigating officer to look into allegations made by Mr Murphy that a university-owned flat, Caxton Place, was being misused by some members of Glyndwr staff.
Mr Murphy said he had sent an email containing certain allegations about alleged impropriety with the intention of protecting the reputation of the university – and those implicated in the allegations.
In her evidence, Ms Bridgett said her investigations found the allegations to be “totally without foundation”.
Mr Murphy was also a branch official of the University and College Union (UCU).
Fellow union members from Glyndwr staged two demonstrations at the beginning of December in his support outside the main gates of the Plas Coch campus on Mold Road.
The tribunal is expected to continue into next week.
