LLANRHAEADR 5
CAERWYS 1

ALED Davies’ Llanrhaeadr are now just 90 minutes away from their 10th North Wales Times Shield triumph after comfortably seeing off Caerwys in Tuesday night’s Llannefydd semi-final.

Three goals in the opening 45 minutes effectively sealed things for Llanrhaeadr, while the heavy rain came in the second period to dampen any Caerwys hopes of a comeback.

So, the showpiece final at Rhewl tomorrow (Friday, 7pm) will see Llanrhaeadr tackle Trefnant, who are looking to win the Shield for the eighth time in their history.

Llanrhaeadr got their noses in front on the 20-minute mark as a long throw was helped on by centre back Llion Edwards and after something of a scramble in the Caerwys area, the impressive Rhys Llwyd was there to put away his fourth goal of the summer.

Ten minutes later in-form Llanrhaeadr doubled their lead.

A great move involving the likes of Graeme Howard, Rhys Llwyd and Sion Davies ended with Ian Evans netting.

That was Evans’ 27th strike of a profitable campaign and he is certain to finish as the Summer League’s top scorer for 2010.

The vital third goal arrived for Llanrhaeadr right on the stroke of half-time.

Gareth Roberts crossed the ball in from the left and after a melee in the box, Ian Evans’ shot just trickled in.

Joint-Caerwys bosses John Owens and Shaun Davies decided to introduce Richie Roberts at the interval and he gave Llanrhaeadr plenty to think about with his dangerous set pieces in the second half.

From one Roberts set piece, Nick Voyle headed in at the near post after an hour to give the Flintshire side a flicker of hope.

However, Llanrhaeadr cemented their place in the final when Alun Williams played the ball to Ian Evans, who hung a cross up to the far post, where Chris Williams was able to rifle the ball on.

Before the end Llanrhaeadr bagged a fifth goal to complete a good night’s work.

Gareth Roberts set up Sion Davies, who curled a fine effort into the bottom corner to complete the scoring.
