A HUGE  motorcycle tribute has been paid to a popular bike enthusiast.

Friends of Victor Jones, who died aged 59, provided a biker escort for the cortège to Pentre Bychan crematorium for his funeral.

About 30 motorcycles took part and the service was packed out with more than 300 people.

One of the organisers of the tribute was Bob Hall, of Church Street, Llangollen, who said Victor, of Pengwern, Llangollen, was a big fan of classic motorbikes.

Bob said: “He had a 650cc 1964 Matchless himself. Victor was a fantastic man, very caring, and his family meant so much to him.

“He gave up his job in the building industry to care for his brother Frank when he started to suffer from impaired vision.”

Bob said Victor was well known to residents throughout the Llangollen area and news of his death had caused great sadness.

“He always liked to have a joke and you never saw him with a frown on his face.”
Another of the organisers was Peter Forster, landlord of the Prince of Wales pub in Regent Street, Llangollen.

Peter said: “You saw big tough bikers with tears in their eyes.

“It was incredibly moving. I could hardly believe that so many people were at the crematorium.

“It was terribly sad. Victor had been unwell for some time but he passed away very suddenly after being admitted to hospital. When the hearse, cars and bikes arrived at the crematorium people started to clap spontaneously.

“It was absolutely packed for the funeral.

“There was standing room only and many people who had come to pay their last respects had to listen outside via speakers.”
