A MAN has been charged with robbery and having an imitation firearm after a masked post office raid.

The 26-year-old from the Wrexham area was charged yesterday by police investigating the incident at Cefn Mawr Post Office.

Postmaster David Taylor, 46, suffered head injuries in the raid at 9.30am on Thursday.

Supt Neil Anderson, from North Wales Police, said: “We are very pleased with the public response that has supported this investigation and the investigation is continuing.

“Such offences are rare in North Wales and we would continue to ensure this type of crime receives every effort to bring the perpetrators to justice.”

The shop was closed on Friday but opened for business again on Saturday, with Mr Taylor and his wife, Janine, who were both in the post office at the time of the incident, vowing not to let it affect them.

Mr Taylor, a former RAF non-commissioned officer, said it was “business as normal”.

He added: “I’m more annoyed that I had to close for a day.

“These things that happen are rare and you just have to carry on.”

He said the police were ‘fantastic’ and added: “They were so professional and really should be praised for what they did.”

The day after the robbery, David joined other members of the Plas Kynaston Canal Group to submit plans for an ambitious marina project in Cefn.

He said that following the robbery the plans were even more important to give a boost to the community.

Anyone with information on the incident is urged to call police on the non-emergency 101 number.
