A VETERAN councillor says he fears for public safety after discovering two exposed slurry pits close to a footpath.

Cllr Klaus Armstrong-Braun stumbled across the two pits by the public footpath on Fagl Lane, Hope, which leads to the Fagl Lane quarry. He said: “Anyone walking down there could easily fall in.

“The bigger one is about 20 feet wide. I threw stones in and you couldn’t even hear them hit the bottom.

“If you were to fall in no-one would be able to hear you shout and you couldn’t even swim out. It is very dangerous.”

Cllr Armstrong-Braun believes the lid has been left off one slurry pit and the other has no concrete lining. “It could end up leaking into our ground water wells and getting into the drinking water system,” he added.

The concerned councillor has now lodged a complaint with Flintshire Council.

Andrew Farrow, head of planning at Flintshire Council, said: “We are seeking to
identify the most appropriate body to address this issue.”
