A MAJOR effort to rid Wrexham’s streets of party drug Mephedrone has been a success.

Operation Quack has been running for about a month and has seen police carry out several raids across the town.

They now want the operation to run for another month after making ‘quite a dent’ in the town's drugs scene.

Community beat manager Miles Hanmer has organised a number of the raids and says most have been triggered by tip-offs from the public.

He said: “The people out there know what is going on and rather than keep it to themselves we urge them to get in touch.

“You don’t have to give your name if you contact us and you can call Crimestoppers in confidence 24 hours a day.

“We expected some information to come in but the volume was enormous and it came in quickly - it has kept us busy for the month.”

The operation was originally set up to target the now illegal party drug, also known as MCAT but officers have also uncovered crack cocaine, heroin and
amphetamines.

PC Hanmer, who covers Caia Park, said: “There are still a lot of drugs out there but we want to work in the heart of the community building trust and safer places to
live.”

At the weekend officers carried out a drugs warrant at Holly Grove, Wrexham following information from the public.

A quantity of class B drugs and several bags of white powder, suspected to be MCAT, were seized. One man was cautioned for cannabis possession and another man has been bailed pending further enquiries for possessing cannabis and the white powder, which is being tested.
