MICHAEL WILDE today revealed his goal for the season ahead.

The prolific goalscorer is determined to play his part in helping Chester achieve promotion.

Wilde, 27, who netted 89 goals in 135 appearances during his three-year spell at Welsh Premier League club, TNS, believes the Blues can achieve a successful campaign.

He said: “All the Chester players know about the high expectations that Chester fans have for their club this season.

“I’m expecting every game we play this season to be like a cup final, but the players will be doing their utmost to get the right results for the club so that we can progress upwards and onwards.

“Chester’s path back to the Conference Premier can look quite daunting when you look at the bigger picture, but I don’t think anyone is likely to get too bogged down with the prospect of getting Chester back to where they were last season.

“We’ll be trying to take little steps and I’m confident we have the right players in place who can achieve the club’s goals.

“We’ve got players in the team like Adriano (Rigoglioso) who can give us plenty of options as a striker, or as someone who can play a bit deeper and help out in midfield.

“Different teams will look at different ways to break us down, and variety is the key to getting out of this league. Our manager Neil Young knows that after achieving promotion last season with Colwyn Bay.

“I feel that everything is in place at Chester. It’s just a case of being patient and then I’m sure we’ll get our rewards at the end of it all.

“I think any striker should be under pressure to score goals and that applies to whichever league you play in.

“I’m hoping to score as many goals as I can for the Chester supporters this season and see if that can earn the club promotion.

“We can talk all day about how many goals I’d be happy with this season, but as long as the team are playing well and we’re winning games, and we’re putting smiles on everybody’s faces then that’s all that matters to me. As long as the team are helping to get the club back to where they belong.”

Wilde admitted he had no hesitation in accepting an invitation to join Chester after attracting interest from a string of clubs in higher divisions.

He added: “I’ve known Neil Young for the last 10 years and we’ve always been in contact wherever I’ve played.

“It’s just funny that I started out with him at Poulton Victoria in the West Cheshire League, and now I’m with him at Chester.

“When Neil got in touch to offer me a deal at Chester I didn’t take much persuading to join him.

“I played for Halifax last season and I was impressed with some of the teams in the league that Chester will be involved in.

“At the top end of the Welsh League where I played for TNS there were a few good games, and I suppose the standard of football is about the same as the Evo-Stik League, give or take a few games that we’ll be playing.

“Everybody was disappointed about Chester’s first pre-season 2-0 defeat at Colwyn Bay, but we’ve all benefited from getting minutes under our belts and we’re hoping we can now improve.

“We only came together as a squad a couple of weeks ago and I think there were a few good points to take away from Saturday’s performance.”
