RESIDENTS on a housing estate have spoken out about gangs of youths they claim are making their lives a misery.

Intimidating behaviour has left those living in and around Dovey Close on Halkyn Road estate, Flint, worried about what might happen next.

They are calling for a CCTV camera and adequate play areas in a bid to help cut anti-social behaviour.

One resident, who did not want to be named, said: “I have had enough. I have had a metal bar thrown at the door and I have had lit matches through the letter box.

“It is worrying to think what they will do next. It’s getting to me and other residents. I’d like to move, I have had enough. I don’t know why it is happening.

“We can’t relax in the home. It is making my life a misery. I think a CCTV camera and more visits by police would help.”

Some residents now refuse to open their doors in the afternoon because they feel they are being targeted for abuse and say they are dreading the school summer holidays.

Another resident said: “They can go over the top. Some of them get the younger kids to do things. It got a bit quieter, but now it is building up again.

“A CCTV camera would help. A lot of the kids who do things don’t live near here.”

The estate is managed by Clwyd Alyn Housing Association, part of Pennaf Housing Group.

Graham Worthington, chief executive for Pennaf, said: “We are aware that there are issues on the estate during the summer months with children playing in front of the properties in Dovey Close.

“We do not have the facility to install or monitor CCTV on estates and we do appreciate that there is no suitable area for ball games to be played on the site, but we do take a robust attitude to any incidents of antisocial behaviour and work directly with tenants to resolve issues in the community.

“We would encourage any tenants to contact us directly so that we can arrange for their local housing officer to visit them and discuss any issues in person.”
