A schoolgirl turned TV reporter to interview a group of young choristers from South Africa at the Llangollen International Eisteddfod yesterday.

Carys Stallard, 10, a pupil and member of the school choir at Ysgol y Gwernant in Llangollen, volunteered to do the stint in front of a BBC camera during Children’s Day at the festival.

The group chosen for her to interview were three members of a school choir from Albertan in South Africa.

Tamlyn Goldenhuis, 17, and her friends Gift Taefsane, 15, and 16-year-old Donata De L Rey are due to compete in the musical section of the Eisteddfod later today.

But they took a few minutes off from rehearsals to chat on camera to Carys about how their lives compare to hers.

They also spoke about what hosting the World Cup had meant to their country. The interview will be screened on the S4C children's news programme Ffeil at 4.50pm today.

The young South Africans told Carys about their sisters and brothers back home and the time they had to be at school in the mornings.

They then turned the tables on her by asking Carys if she praised the same god as they do.

She replied that she thought people in Wales, England, Ireland and Scotland all praised the same god as in South Africa.

Tamlyn proudly explained how she lives close to the stadium where the opening match of the World Cup was played.

And Gift said: “This World Cup, wow! Everybody in towns and villages in my country have all been blowing their vuvuzelas!”
