WREXHAM boss Dean Saunders continues to strengthen his attacking options with the signing of David Brown.

The 31-year-old is a former Manchester United apprentice, who moved to Hull City on his release, making over 100 appearances for the Tigers, before spells at Chester City, Hereford United, Accrington Stanley and most recently Forest Green Rovers.

Brown formed a potent strike force with Wrexham hitman Andy Mangan while at Rovers, who made him player/assistant manager and caretaker boss for a short spell after Jim Harvey left, and Saunders is pleased to have added further firepower.

“The squad is shaping up nicely, I think we have got the average age of the squad up to 27 where last season it was nearer 21, 22,” he declared.

“He (Brown) is another experienced player who can play in midfield. He connected well with Andy Mangan at Forest Green and made alot of his goals.

“He can play in the midfield three and he can play up front, just off the striker if we play like that and he can play right or left side of midfield.

“I have been talking about the signing all summer but I have been trying to fit it into the budget, he hasn’t cost me an arm and a leg to get him in and that was how I needed to work it.

“We will have less players than we did last year but we have a bit more experience, which I felt we needed, and we have player’s who have played in the league.”
