Spencer and Voyle lift the gloom at Caerwys

IT’S been a long old wait for Caerwys, but they can finally celebrate their second win of 2010.
 

Not since the second game of the season - at home to Llangynhafal way back on April 22 - had the Flintshire side tasted success, but it finally arrived with a worthy win at home to Llanfair.
 

Llanfair player-boss Roger Beech wasn’t a happy man with his side’s showing in the six-goal thumping at Henllan earlier in the week, comparing the display to England’s abject performance versus Algeria!
 

However, Beech was placated by his side’s improvement at Caerwys.
 

“I was happier,” he said. “I told the lads there was no pressure and to go there and enjoy the game and they did the right things.
 

“It was a nice game and both sides tried to play football.”
 

Caerwys went into the match on the back of a 17-game winless sequence stretching back more than two months, but performances of late meant that they began the game with some quiet confidence.
 

The woodwork was their friend on the night and there could be some arguments for unlucky Llanfair keeper Steve Roberts to be given two own goals.
 

But the two goals will go to the Caerwys players that hit the shots from distance.
 

In the first half Jake Yog Spencer cracked a shot from 30 yards that swerved late, hit the post and was deflected into the net off Roberts.
 

And, in a virtual carbon copy incident in the second half, Nick Voyle let fly from 30 yards out, the ball crashed against the crossbar and hit keeper Roberts before going in!
 

Joint-Caerwys boss John Owens quipped the morning after: “I’ve got nothing to moan about!”
 

He added: “Overall, it was a good performance, but probably no better than our last two games - we played well in both of them.”
 

The stand out performer for Caerwys on the night was Nick Voyle, while Neil ‘Twin’ Davies looked assured at the back for Llanfair.
