THOUSANDS of music lovers enjoyed a three-day festival.

Crowds at the Gwyl Gobaith Festival of Hope 2010 were treated to performances from a host of stars while soaking up the sunshine at the Deeside College campus in Northop.

The festival was held in aid of the main children’s hospices serving North Wales: Hope House near Oswestry and Ty Gobaith in the Conwy Valley.

Friday was dedicated to choirs in the park, with performances from artists including the London Community Gospel Choir, Fron Male Voice Choir and 2009 National Eisteddfod winners Maelgwyn Male Voice Choir.

Musicals in the park was the theme on Saturday, with a bill featuring West End star Peter Karrie.

Sunday was devoted to classics with the star-studded line-up including tenor Rhys Meirion, soprano Shan Cothi, Chirk’s David Kempster and Rhos pianist Llyr Williams.

Festival organiser Eleanor Roberts told the Leader the event was ‘unbelievable’.

She said: “The backdrop was amazing and Deeside College have been wonderful.

“Saturday’s West End performances brought the house down and it was the same with the choirs in the park on Friday. The music was beyond anything I could have expected.

“On Sunday night we had the classics, it was such a wonderful evening and everybody was so happy. The festival is going from strength to strength.”

The festival is due to be screened on S4C.
