A TALENTED footballer killed as the result of a car crash was remembered by colleagues as they tasted victory in a football tournament.

David ‘Dewi’ Foulkes, 23, of Mancot, died in the accident on Glynne Way, Hawarden, last August.

Friend and driver Martin Bielicky was jailed for six years for causing his death by dangerous driving while three times over the drink-drive limit. Staff from Aptuit in
Deeside, where Dewi worked, went to Scotland to take part in The Alan Moir Memorial Tournament.

A team of seven who represented Deeside raised almost £500 for their chosen charity, the Campaign Against Drink Driving (CADD).

Ange Gambino, operations manager at Aptuit, told the Leader: “This was the first year we had heard about it, so our bosses kindly agreed to send a Deeside team.

“The organiser said we were great ambassadors for the Deeside site and were a popular addition to the tournament. We are all really proud of them all. We will keep this going and keep Dewi’s memory alive.”

Last week the Leader revealed that Dewi’s mother, Lynn, had launched a campaign for zero tolerance to drink-driving and will take a petition to Downing Street as part of her campaign.

This came as ministers were urged to cut the drink-drive limit by nearly half in a Government-commissioned report.

Sir Peter North’s review said reducing the limit from 80mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood to 50mg would save hundreds of lives. Lynn told the Leader: “If it saves one person’s life I will do it.”
