A MAN involved in an affray at a Wrexham pub has been banned from the premises for 18 months.

Kevin Patterson, 43,admitted affray and received an eight month sentence suspended for 18 months.

Patterson, of Tan y Coed, Wrexham, was ordered to carry out 200 hours unpaid work.

Judge Philip Hughes also made an order banning him from The Bowling Green pub at Wrexham.

Mold Crown Court heard the landlady’s partner, Gareth Williams, had been knocked unconscious during the affray and someone had stamped on his head.

He was taken to hospital and two metal plates had to be inserted in his face during surgery.

But it was stressed Patterson was not responsible for that part of the affray and that others, not yet caught, were responsible for that attack.

Prosecutor Elizabeth Bell told how Patterson went to the pub to see another man who he claimed owed him money following the sale of a car. Patterson arrived at the back of the pub with other men one night in April and the landlady and her partner tried to prevent them from entering.

It was then that Mr Williams was dragged outside into the garden area of the pub and attacked.

Patterson went over to a man he claimed owed him money, punched him to the side of the head causing him to fall to the floor, and a fight then developed between them.

David Blythin said his client was not prone to violence and aggression. He was the sole parent of a five-year-old son and had  behaved unwisely in the pub.

Judge Philip Hughes said it was obvious other people were involved in the affray and they played a significant part in what happened.

The judge said he was also concerned that Patterson had sole responsibility for a child and in those circumstances he would be given a suspended sentence.
