A MULTI-MILLION pound medical centre has been left without crucial CCTV equipment.

BT were due to install cabling for the surveillance cameras at the £8 million Quay Health Centre in Fron Road, Connah’s Quay ahead of its opening earlier this month.

However, due to a technical issue, it is expected that the CCTV will not be operational for another few weeks.

Connah’s Quay councillor Bernie Attridge said: “The order was put in with BT months ago and paid for and it’s still not done.

“This is a scandal I am calling on BT to pay compensation for the delay. To wait such a long time for work to be done is unacceptable.”

The area in the vicinity of the medical centre and the One Stop Shop is a hot spot for congregating youths, according to the councillor.

Cllr Attridge said the cameras were vital in stamping out anti-social behaviour.

He added: “We are working very closely with North Wales Police to try and sort out ant-social behaviour and CCTV is a big tool in the kit.

“The police are doing a great job, but they can’t be everywhere and I’m pleading with BT to get their finger out.

“At the end of the day this is taxpayers' money.”

Town centre manager Lisa Fearn said tens of thousands of pounds had been spent on the installation of CCTV.

She said: “It should have been done by now. We can’t turn the cameras on until the cables are in.

“I am chasing BT and hoping that the cameras will be up and running in the next few weeks.”
