BLUES boss Neil Young today expressed his delight about his latest signing.

The Chester manager has secured the services of Roger Sharrock who he described as ‘the best winger in last season’s Unibond League Division One’.

Sharrock, who has signed from Lancaster City, is Young’s 15th signing and arrives at The Deva having scored 16 goals in 41 appearances last season.

Young said: “Roger Sharrock was my number one target and I’m really delighted to have him on board.

“In my opinion he was the best winger in the Unibond League Division One last season and he is a great capture for Chester.

“I didn’t really know whether I would be able to sign Roger because he was in talks with Lancaster and had been attracting interest from a number of Football League clubs.

“He’s only 24 years old and he’s a skillful player with bags of potential. I came to Chester wanting to sign the calibre of players in the same bracket as Roger Sharrock.

“I made Roger an offer that was within my budget and I was delighted to see him accept.

“Roger had been a target of mine for a while, but I knew I had to move quick to get him because he was a non-contract player at Lancaster and has come to Chester without any transfer fee.

“I think the Chester fans will be pleased and excited with the way Roger plays and by his appetite for goals. The fans will soon know why I’ve been tracking him for a while.

“I’ve watched him on plenty of occasions and I’ve been impressed with his electric pace and the way in which he adds spark to his side’s performances.

“He picked up a hip injury at Christmas which sidelined him for two or three months, but he has now fully recovered.”

Admitting that Sharrock’s signing had signalled that Chester had nearly completed their squad ahead of the club’s first scheduled training session on Tuesday, Young added: “I’m nearly done now as far as new signings are concerned.

“I feel that I still need another wide player, a centre forward, and a young goalkeeper, but other than that I feel I have the majority of my squad in place.

“The quality of players we have signed for the level of football we will be playing is fantastic. We have a decent squad and I’m keen to see the club fulfil their potential.”

Young revealed that he was hoping to tie up two pre-season friendlies against Premiership clubs, and he was also hoping to announce an away friendly match on July 17.
