IMPRESSIVE plans for an Extra Care housing complex in Mold have been unveiled.

The scheme earmarked for Jasmine Crescent includes 40 apartments for older people, 20 apartments for people with dementia and two bungalows and two maisonettes for people with learning disabilities.

Outline planning permission was granted in March and developers are hoping their designs will land them with full planning permission.

Christine Jones, project manager for the Extra Care scheme, told a meeting at County Hall on Monday: “There will be lots of greenery and we’re hoping to put in a sensory garden with colourful flowers.

“We will be be fitting some gates to keep the complex secure, but they will be lovely wrought iron gates.

“We want to sustain people’s independence as much as we can but we also want to keep them safe. Nearer to the time we will work with families and prospective tenants to plan their care.”

Bosses compared the new scheme to Llys Eleanor, the state-of-the-art complex in Shotton where facilities include a shop, gym, hobbies room, cinema, lounge and restaurant.

Susie Lunt, operation manager for development and design, said: “It will be as nice as Llys Eleanor if not better because we will be using the same contractors.

“London has got the Olympics, Flintshire has got this.”

A public consultation on the scheme will take place in the coming weeks.

Penyffordd councillor Cindy Hinds is backing the scheme. “It is absolutely fantastic. It looks lovely and very homely.”
