A GRIEVING mother whose son was killed by a drink-driver has launched a campaign to slash the drink-drive limit.

David ‘Dewi’ Foulkes, 23, from Mancot, died after the smash on Glynne Way, Hawarden, in August last year.

His friend Martin Bielicky was jailed for six years for causing his death by dangerous driving while three times over the limit.

David’s mother Lynn wants the limit cut to zero and will take a petition to Downing Street as part of her campaign.

Her fight came as ministers were urged to cut the drink-drive limit by nearly half in a government-commissioned report.

Sir Peter North’s review said reducing the limit from 80mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood to 50mg would save hundreds of lives.

Lynn told the Leader: “If it saves one person’s life I will do it. I’m pleased that they might lower the limit but the aim for me is to get it down to no drink at all.

“If they have the power to lower it, they should abolish it all together.

“I don’t think you should have any drink whatsoever when you’re driving. Even one drink can make a big difference.

“Some people can tolerate it and others can’t handle it at all.

“It should be no drink and then the message is clear.”

Lynn added: “I will go and see our local MP Mark Tami and hope he gets behind my campaign.

“It’s just a case of getting people together to support it.

“Them I will go down to London to personally hand it in.

“The anti-smoking campaign stopped people smoking in pubs so they can stop drink-driving.

“I won’t stop until I get that limit down.”

Lynne is continuing to raise money for the charity CADD (Campaign Against Drinking and Driving) and will make a cheque presentation later in the year.
