CEFN 2
CAERWYS 1

FOR the first time this season, Cefn are the Summer League’s top dogs.

They replace Nantglyn on goal difference after deservedly edging out bottom-of-the-table Caerwys - and in the process Cefn become the Summer League’s fifth different leaders of 2010.

Cefn’s Dilwyn Roberts described his side’s 10th win of the season as a deserved one, but despite travelling without a number of key players, lowly Caerwys did cause the high-flyers a few concerns.

The home side looked to have the points in the bag when they went into the break two goals to the good.

Jake Walker set up Osian Williams to score the opening goal, while Pete Dawson’s second goal of the campaign - from the edge of the box - then doubled the lead after half-an-hour.

Caerwys were indebted to a fine first half display from goalkeeper Gareth Williams for keeping the Flintshire side in touch going into the second half.

Cefn did have further opportunities to add to their tally, though, with Jake Walker and Osian Williams both going close.

Joint-Caerwys boss John Owens admitted: “I think Cefn were the better side and we were missing a lot of players.”

Even so, Caerwys did give a spirited showing on the night and they reduced the deficit after Tom Smith was fouled in the box.

Geraint Jones successfully tucked away the ensuing spot kick to make it 2-1.

Further Caerwys chances went the way of youngster Owen Trainer and Bryn Roberts, while another positive for the visitors was the appearance as substitute of Dyfan Davies after a spell out through injury.

For Cefn, Sam Benbow was in superb form.
