Josh’s rocket keeps Dyrny in the frame

A FINE Josh Davies strike helped Llandyrnog to see off Caerwys and stay on the fringes of the title picture.
 

Caerwys can maybe count themselves a bit unfortunate that they failed to pick up a point.
 

“It was quite a close game,” said joint-Caerwys boss John Owens.
 

“I think myself and (fellow joint-manager) Shaun (Davies) are quite frustrated we can play quite a decent level for most of the game and not come away with anything.”
 

Llandyrnog assistant manager Mally Hughes said: “This game could or should have ended four or five apiece if both teams had their shooting boots on.”
 

The visitors took the lead on 10 minutes when Danny Roberts’ dangerous cross was turned into his own net by a Caerwys defender.
 

Three minutes later Caerwys had a chance to level when a cross found Tom Smith player in space, but he shot over from six yards out.
 

Only a fine stop from Iain Robertson - pushing a deflected free kick against the crossbar - denied Caerwys an equaliser.
 

Caerwys’ equaliser arrived two minutes shy of half-time as Tom Smith’s strike struck a defender’s leg and found its way into the net.
 

The first 20 minutes of the second half proved to be scrappy but it eventually settled down with Llandyrnog playing the better football.
 

It was going to take something special to win the game and it was Josh Davies who came up with it.
 

Lucas Cruz won a crunching tackle and played the ball to Davies, who unleashed a fierce shot from distance into the top corner.
