Mourners turned out to pay their final respects to a young man who died after suffering serious head injuries.

Friends and family of Peter Jones from Mold packed into the town’s St Mary’s Church to bid farewell to the popular 24-year-old who died last month after an incident in Buckley town centre.

The church service yesterday was followed by a burial at Bistre Cemetery in Buckley and balloons were released in his memory. Family friend Lynsey Burkhill, 21, sang Arms of an Angel, by Sarah McLachlan, at the service. The wake was at the White Lion in Buckley.

Aunt Linda Buxton said: “He had a good send off. It was marvellous, absolutely lovely.  My niece Chelsea Jones, who is nine, said a few words for Peter at the altar.”

More than 1,800 people have joined a Facebook page leaving heartfelt messages for Peter and his family.

Leanne Jones posted: “It is time to say my final farewell to you hun.

“You are an amazing person and even though it is time to lay you to rest, you will never ever be forgotten. Sleep well sweetie. Sending my love to you.”

Peter, who was affectionately known as Little Peter, was taken to the Countess of Chester Hospital after the incident on May 9, and later died.

He had been on a night out with his father, also called Peter Jones, who suffered a fractured eye socket.

- GAFYN Denman, an aircraft worker from Woodlands Close, Mold, appeared at Caernarfon Crown Court on Friday, May 21 accused of the manslaughter of Peter Jones. The case was adjourned until July 16.
