LLANGYNHAFAL 1
YSCEIFIOG 4

HAVING the bulk of possession doesn’t necessarily mean that you win football matches.

Llangynhafal saw more than their fair share of the ball versus Ysceifiog, but Danny Jones’ side had a slick cutting edge going forward as they ran out comprehensive winners.

The Flintshire side look to be nearing their best now, after an uninspiring first half of the season, and the success at Llangynhafal was their first away win of the season.

“At the end of the day, we didn’t look like we wanted to know,” said Llangynhafal manager Martin Dyer.

Two goals in each half did the trick for Ysceifiog.

After a bright Llangynhafal start the visitors bagged the first goal when Gareth Parry squeezed the ball home after a corner.

There was plenty of huff-and-puff from the Rhewl-based hosts, but the Ysceifiog defence - superbly led by Chris House - mainly kept them at arm’s length.

Ysceifiog had some pace going forward and this is what led to the award of a penalty, which was confidently put away by player boss and stand-in keeper Danny Jones.

Although not a regular keeper, Jones did keep out almost everything that Llangynhafal threw at him in the second half.

The home side created the better openings, but Ysceifiog took their opportunities after the interval to stretch their unbeaten run in the league to five games.

Joe Mulvey raced clear for goal number three and the fourth strike wasn’t too long in coming with Tom Jones on target.

There was a small piece of consolation for Llangynhafal to clasp 10 minutes from time as impressive full back Arthur Livesey dinked the ball home.

Livesey and left back Ifan Hafal were by far Llangynhafal’s best players on the night, but it was Ysceifiog’s night, thanks in no small part to a brilliant midfield display from Sean Evans.

Llangynhafal manager Dyer added: “They lacked the will to win, the desire to win and the passion.”
