CAERWYS 2
YSCEIFIOG 2

FLINTSHIRE bragging rights are shared after Caerwys and Ysceifiog battled out a stalemate.

It proved to be a real game of two halves between the local rivals, with the John Owens and Shaun Davies-managed hopes on the up at half-time, but back came Danny Jones’ charges to secure a share of the spoils in the second half.

According to Ysceifiog player-boss Jones a lack of enthusiasm in the opening period cost his side dear.

By the time half-time came around, bottom-of-the-table Caerwys were two goals to the good - and it so easily could have been three.

Before the deadlock was broken, the hosts were awarded a spot kick but the usually-reliable Nick Voyle failed from 12 yards out.

It soon came good for Caerwys, though, as top North Wales cricketer Charlie Clubb hit Ysceifiog for six when he headed home his first-ever Summer League goal from close-range.

One then became two as Voyle made amends for his earlier penalty miss by netting with a low strike.

Those were to be the home side’s high points, though, as their local rivals came storming back in the second 45 minutes.

Goals from Sean Evans and ex-Caerwys performer Will Newby had Ysceifiog back on level terms, while the visitors created a number of other chances to add to their tally.

Osian Jones and Tom Jones both went close, but in the end Ysceifiog had to be satisfied with picking up their first away point of the season.

Caerwys hopes weren’t helped by the loss of centre half Geraint Jones to injury midway through the second half, while the hosts were indebted to keeper Gareth Williams with a couple of late saves to keep his side on level terms.
