A CAMPAIGN has been launched to revive a popular town carnival.

A group of friends are working to bring back Flint Fun Day, which was stopped more than 10 years ago.

Resident Nathan Griffiths, 34, is the brains behind the operation and is hoping to form a committee to get the ball rolling.

He told the Leader: “We want to get it up and running again.

“It was going for years and years and then it all stopped.”

Activities will include a teddy bear’s picnic, talent competitions and fairground rides.

Nathan added: “We are also hoping for carnival floats, face painting and a bungee jump for the daredevils.

“If we get enough support we will re-introduce the pram race that was so popular years ago.”

Nathan is calling on local businesses and community groups to lend their support.

He said: “We would like as many people as possible to get involved.

“It would be a great way to enhance your CV and gain new skills.

“This will be a great opportunity for charities to raise money.

“We are also hoping that local schools can design the carnival logo through a competition.”

A group on the social networking site Facebook has also been gathering support.

“I miss the community spirit of Flint,” wrote one person on the group named ‘Bring Back Flint Fun Day’.

The carnival would run alongside Flint Festival which takes place in July and is in its sixth year.

Flint Town Council leader Ian Roberts says: “Although I am committed to the Flint Festival, I wish them every success in what they’re doing.

“Anything that provides a service for the town has my backing.”

The Flint Festival runs from Friday, July 2 to Sunday, July 4.

Campaigners hope the Flint Fun Day will take place in August 2011.
