DEVELOPING Bromfield Industrial Estate into a retail park attracting major store chains and bringing more than 100 jobs would be good news for Mold.

That was the general response from people the Leader spoke to yesterday.
Jenna Bevan from Mold said: “I’d support plans for a shopping park, I would definitely use it.

“We need more jobs in Mold, lots of my friends are struggling to find work.”

Fellow Mold resident Michael Platt said: “I think it’s an excellent idea, it would bring business to the area. A new shopping park can only benefit the town, it would be really good to have something like that on your doorstep.”

Several people praised the location of the proposed shopping centre, just off Wrexham Road.

Launa Jones, from Llandyrnog, works in Mold and has to drive to Rhyl to go to shops such as Currys or Comet.

She said: “I’d be able to go on my way home from work if this goes ahead as the Bromfield Estate is very easy to get to.”

Leeswood resident Ray Evans agreed: “There will be a lot of traffic surrounding Aldi and Tesco on one side of town so having it on the Bromfield Industrial Estate will be easy to access for people from areas such as Wrexham.

“We could do with something like that near Mold, all we seem to have at the moment is hairdressers and estate agents.”

Wendy Finch from Carmel said the easy parking would be useful.

She added: “I don’t like driving but at the moment you have to drive further afield to get to shops like Comet and Halfords, so it would be good to have something nearer.

“There’s a lot of things you can’t get in Mold so I think it’s a good idea.”

However there was concern raised that the shops could take trade away from Mold town centre.

Joan Sixsmith from Pentre Halkyn said: “A shopping park may take business from the high street.

“There are still a lot of empty shops in Holywell and Mold, I’m not sure whether an out-of-town shopping centre may make this worse.”
