RAIDERS have ransacked a children’s gymnastics club.

Organisers turned up to find a large sum of money and equipment stolen – including members’ leotards.

Leaders of Abbey Road Acro, based on Wrexham Industrial Estate, are now trying to pick up the pieces after the raid in the early hours of Tuesday.

Club spokesman Debbie Jones, who discovered the break-in, says she feels “absolutely gutted”.

“This is really sickening. My heart was in my mouth and I was shaking like a leaf at the time,” she said.

“People at the club put in so much hard work for the children to have somewhere to go to and train, then this happens.

“We are due to carry out a gymnastics display on June 19 in Queen’s Square, but without the leotards I really don’t know how we are going to manage.

“The burglars have taken so many other things, including fundraising money, a laptop, cameras, as well as a 42-inch television and blu-ray DVD which were only brought in January for about £900. It was gouged out of the wall with knives

“I really can’t put a figure on how much all this would be worth in total. The leotards alone would come to something like £500.”

Debbie said one small consolation was that the club still had its gym equipment and they were able to carry on with training.

“Yes, we can function, but it is terrible to think someone has been through all the items here.

“This club is a place that has a big emphasis on helping each other, showing consideration and being dedicated.”

Debbie is asking any members of the public who may have information which could help the investigation to get in contact with police as soon as possible.
