FEARS have been raised that a derelict church has become a “crime hot-spot” after a vandal attack.
Saltney Ferry English Presbertarian Church on Flint Road was targeted on Saturday night.
The church, which is no longer property of the Presbyterian Church of Wales, is owned by the Gladstone Estate.
Cllr Klaus Armstrong-Braun said people breaking into the church was an ongoing problem.
He said: “It has been a crime hot-spot for a long time.
“It is upsetting to hear of a church being vandalised. There is an ongoing problem with people going in, but it is bound to happen with an unused building.”
The church, known locally as the Matthews Church, has been subject to a number of incidents including an arson attack in December 2008 when the building was gutted and was on the verge of collapse
A spokesman for North Wales Police said: “We had a report that the youths had entered the derelict building and were causing some damage and vandalising the building.
“One of the youths was detained and spoken to by officers at the scene.”
