FURIOUS residents have vowed to fight plans for new houses in their cul-de-sac.

An application to build 11 new homes on land near The Larches in Hawarden has been slammed by residents who say their narrow street would not cope with the extra traffic.

They are considering staging a protest when the application goes to a planning meeting next month.

Resident Graham Hutchinson told the Leader: “The road is very narrow and a bin lorry cannot get down there without using the pavement.

“The road width may be within existing guidelines but these are outdated and inadequate.

“We already have problems with our drains overflowing.”

Angry homeowners are also concerned that the large detached homes on the two hectare field would not be in keeping with the character of the area.

Mr Hutchinson added: “The design of the houses doesn’t match the existing cul-de-sac. The applicant describes this as a small development but the council says anything over 10 houses is a major development.

“We believe it will have a detrimental effect on the area.”

Developers are insisting that the homes will improve the look of the area.

The applicant wrote in a planning statement: “A key consideration of the proposed development was that it should make a positive improvement to the character and environmental quality of the area and the way it functions.”

Residents are now asking the applicant to rethink its plans.

Residents have until June to make objections when the application will be discussed at a Flintshire Council planning meeting.
