A MAN who suffered burns to his face following an accident at a Wrexham factory has been discharged from hospital and is recovering at home.

The process which led to his injury has been suspended while an investigation takes place.

Fire crews dashed to the Cytec Engineered Materials plant in Abenbury Way on the Wrexham Industrial Estate at about 10pm last Friday to deal with the incident.

Four crews from Wrexham as well as the specialist incident response unit from Deeside and the environmental protection from Wrexham were called to the scene after being notified by the alarm company of an incident and discovered a man with flash burns to his face.

Paramedics were also called to the scene and transferred the 37-year-old employee, who has not been named by the company, to Wrexham Maelor Hospital.

Dave Humfress, Cyctec’s European health and safety manager, said: “An employee received minor injuries, which were temperature burns, as a result of a fire in one of the processors.

“He was taken to hospital but was discharged on Saturday evening and is now recovering at home with his family.

“He is as well as can be expected under the circumstances “

Mr Humfress added: “The employee is an experienced operator who has been with the company for a long time and is familiar with the process, which is part of our resin manufacturing operation.

“The process has been suspended until an investigation by our own health and safety team is completed.”

The American-owned company, which has been in Wrexham since 1982, manufactures speciality composite materials for the aerospace and automotive industries. Following the accident firefighters wearing specialist gas-tight suits cleaned up the area involved.

Management of the company liaised with crews and assisted in evacuating the premises.

Paul Jenkinson, of the North Wales Fire and Rescue Service, said: “This incident was an excellent example of our cutting edge equipment and resources at work.

“It also highlights that we as a service have a wide range of equipment and procedures which enable us to respond to a range of incidents.”
