MOLD’S charge towards the top of the Premier Division continued in impressive fashion with a seven wicket win at Llanrwst.

Chasing 215 to win, Mold reached their target with 27 overs to spare after the home team had declared on 214 for eight from 50 overs.

Russell Wiseman took 3-29 off 15 overs and Danny Drew finished with figures of 3-48 as Ryan Heywood ended unbeaten on 78.

Mold wasted no time in their turn at the crease as Jamie Griffiths batted all the way through for a brilliant 91 not out.

Russ Wiseman hit 37 and his brother Cliff was unbeaten on 62 as Mold romped to 217 for three inside 33 overs.

Nick Flack and Mark Roberts bowled Chirk to victory against Hawarden Park to push them into third place.

Skipper Flack led from the front, hitting 39 in Chirk’s 201 for nine, before landing 4-45.

But Roberts out-bowled his captain, taking 5-47 as the struggling home side were wiped out for 156.

Tom Ducker’s 58 was the only performance of note for Park although Campbell Marr (3-32) and Craig Wilson (3-31) did their best to keep Chirk under wraps.

But 47 from the consistent Gareth Morris and Shaun Walker’s 41 helped Chirk to a winning total as they moved behind second placed Llandudno in the league table.

Llandudno hammered Pontblyddyn by eight wickets in a high-scoring encounter.

Pont’s Glenn Chambers and Phil Davies put on 80 for the first wicket with Chambers going on to top score with 57.

Mark Hughes (39) and Angus Reckford (38) helped take Pont’s total to 212.
Llandudno, and in particular Sam Rimmington, made it look so easy in their reply.

Rimmington, who had earlier snaffled up 3-28, smashed a superb 124 as the leaders eased to 216 for two, opener Steve Smith carrying his bat for 75.

Brymbo’s poor run goes on as they were easily beaten by fourth-placed Bangor at Ty Newydd.

Brymbo’s decision to bat after winning the toss back-fired big style as they were dismissed for 132 in 53 painful overs.

James Claybrook top scored with 52 and then showed his team-mates how to bowl, taking 4-35. No-one else could follow his example as Bangor raced to 133 for four in 34 overs, Gwilym Lloyd-Jones top scoring with 63.

In stark contrast to that low scoring game, Connah’s Quay lost at home to Mochdre despite scoring 277 runs.

Mochdre batted first on the run-rich Quay ground and smashed 293 for eight from 50 overs.

Will Evans hit 96 while Gareth Davies was run out three runs short of his hundred. David Fox was the home team’s best bowlers, landing 3-52.

The Quay gave it their best shot and were 16 runs short at the end of their 60 over stint.

Captain Sean Steynberg-Wright led the way with 63 while David Powell and Darren Jones both hit 49 as they finished on 277 for eight.

In the day’s other top flight game, Menai Bridge (193) beat St Asaph by 97 runs.
